Diabetics should frequently visit the dentist because they are more prone to diseases of the teeth and gums. Therefore, they should brush their teeth at least twice a day, and preferably after every meal. In order not to hurt sensitive gums it is recommended to use a toothbrush with soft synthetic bristles with rounded ends. Oral hygiene should be supplemented by flossing, which reaches into places most inaccessible for toothbrushes (in diabetics, the amount of saliva is reduced, hence remnants of food are not rinsed and cause plaque).
