Removal of dental calculus (scaling)
The removal of dental calculus, otherwise known as scaling, is a procedure that eliminates the tartar (calculus) forming on the surface of teeth as a result of food particles and bacteria accumulating in the dental plaque. The tartar results in the lowering and exposure of tooth necks, which may in turn cause the bone to atrophy, thereby making the teeth loose and fall out (periodontitis).
Scaling should be performed once or twice a year.
